Snow Day Event Brings Winter Fun to Downtown Kent
Featuring Live Music, Fire Pits & S’mores, Polar Putt Putt, Ice Carving & More
Main Street Kent and the City of Kent are planning a new winter event called “Snow Day” on Sat., Jan. 27 from 1pm to 7pm! Thanks to MSK, the City, Talk On Speech & Occupational Therapy, Each + Every, Wright Heating and Hometown Bank, attendees will enjoy free entertainment, fun activities and delicious treats throughout the day.
Head to the Hometown Bank Plaza for live music, outdoor fire pits and free s’mores! The entertainment lineup begins with Grandpa Winnie at 2:00pm, then City of Invention at 3:30pm, and the final act will be Van Sailin’ at 6pm. Stop by the Main Street Kent tent for s’mores making supplies and to partake in a winter scavenger hunt. The Daisy Pops PopMobile will be on site with free cake pops for all who complete the hunt, plus completed entries will be put in a drawing for a $100 Kent Card from Main Street Kent.
The Kent Jaycees and Talk On Speech & Occupational Therapy will have free games and crafts from 1pm to 5pm in the gazebo at W. Main St./Franklin Ave. and there will be a free polar putt putt activity in Acorn Plaza from 1pm to 7pm, hosted by area businesses. There will be a snowman ice carving demonstration at Dan Smith Community Park at 1pm, with other ice sculptures on display, plus Portage Parks will host a winter-themed craft, and there will be a fun snowman photo opportunity with a collection bin for hats and mittens/gloves for Kent City Schools/Neighborhood Bridges.
Several businesses and organizations will offer crafts and activities for all ages, plus event-themed menu items like hot cocoa flights, DORA coffee drinks and winter product specials. Participants include: Daisy Pops, Sun in Leo, Townhall II, Rocco’s Cupcake Cafe, Hippie Fox Rocks, Tiger Rae Boutique, Ray’s Place, Off the Wagon, Tree City, Colored Threads at Kent Sportswear, Flourish Plant Mkt., Just Add Cookies at the Kent Health Department, Belleria, Bent Tree Coffee, Bell Tower Brewing, Scribbles Coffee, McKay Bricker Framing, North Water Brewing and Popped! Main Street Kent executive director Heather Malarcik said, “People tend to get the winter blues in Ohio, and our businesses see less foot traffic this time of year, so we thought we’d create a fun day of festivities to get people outside.
