This year, Ohio’s sales tax holiday is from Friday, August 6, 2021 at 12:00 a.m. to Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Ohio shoppers will be able to take advantage of the annual tax-free weekend. In addition to the tax-free weekend, many retailers are also running back-to-school promotions.
Just don't plan on a major appliance or electronic purchases because those are not included in the tax-free weekend.
During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:
- An item of clothing priced at $75 or less;
- An item of school supplies priced at $20 or less; and
- An item of school instructional material priced at $20 or less.
Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.
There is no limit on the purchase total, just the price of each item. For example, $15 backpack + $20 jeans + $25 coat+ $20 shirt= $80 and is tax exempt.
